Our caring cuppa and cake break brews good news for cancer care!
There’s nothing finer than a break from the daily grind for cake and a cuppa – especially when it supports cancer care in our local community.
For over 100 years, Macmillan Cancer Support has been helping people living with cancer – from being there to provide nursing and palliative care, to campaigning for better support at every stage of the cancer journey.
Our caring team at The Blackburn Bus Company decided to get involved by running our own Macmillan Coffee Morning – and together with colleagues across the organisation, we’re proud to have raised £800 in a couple of hours to support the charity’s work.
Matt Burley, our Project and Marketing Manager, said:
“Several of our team baked their own home-made cakes to serve alongside hot drinks – while others whose catering skills are a little more limited bought extra cakes to top up the tables.
“We know Macmillan Cancer Support works locally in our community through its Information and Support Service at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, and at both Burnley General Hospital and Royal Preston Hospital.
“This year Macmillan is celebrating 35 years of fundraising coffee mornings, and we decided to do something practical to help. The cakes and the drinks went down well, and more importantly, helped us to support cancer care on our doorstep.”
Even though the date of this year’s event has now passed, the charity says anyone can follow the bus firm’s example and run their own coffee morning at any time.
