Our buses - Coastliner, Witchway, Aireline and Mainline

what we do

Our colourful, attractive buses and dedicated, hardworking people have made us a household name in the communities we are proud to serve across the North of England.

We share our skills in active partnerships across Yorkshire and Lancashire, working closely with directly elected mayors and Combined Authorities in York and North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester to deliver clean, green transport solutions in urban and rural locations.

Across Transdev Group, more than 102,000 people help an average of 12 million customers every day to reach their destination safely and in comfort. We strengthen communities across our region and around the world as people serving people, whether it’s for travel to work, study, receiving medical care, shopping, socialising and more.

We’re the people behind many of the North of England’s best-loved branded bus routes. From Coastliner to Witchway, Aireline to Mainline, our smart and colourful buses keep our region moving across hundreds of miles from city to country, every day.

Our depth of experience and expertise means we’re also uniquely positioned to support the shift towards bus franchising, combining our local knowledge and global excellence to create attractive and successful passenger transport.

Partnering with Transdev in franchised networks brings with it our award-winning innovation, industry-leading best practice and partnership experience

Our fleet is built to exacting specifications driven by detailed research into what our customers want from us – and to meet and beat the same standards of refinement people expect from today’s cars.

We also know one size doesn’t fit all – because our customers going further on The 36 expect a different experience to those making short-hop local journeys on our Mainline routes in Burnley, Nelson and Colne. On our intensive local routes we’re about moving people from A to B efficiently – while on our flagship routes like Witchway, we provide a premium experience to encourage more people to switch from the car to the bus.

We’re already leading the way in green technologies, including:

  • in Harrogate with our zero emission buses and infrastructure to support them

  • in York with our newest green depot, filled from floor to ceiling with environment-friendly features

  • in West Yorkshire with our new electric and hybrid buses helping to meet and beat emissions reducing, clean air targets across cities and towns

  • in Lancashire with our switch to a revolutionary high-blend biodiesel fuel, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by thousands of tonnes – the equivalent of taking 1,745 cars off the roads every year

  • In Greater Manchester with our customer information screens on our Witchway express route giving live bus and tram connections at our Shudehill Interchange terminus in the city centre.

We positively support regional and national economic growth by:

  • creating local employment

  • contributing to the dynamic and attractive fabric of the places we serve

  • driving our green transition programmes forward to protect our environment

 Customers and colleagues

our customers

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do.

The experienced team at our own Customer Service Centre respond positively to all customer feedback, and are ready to help with everything from planning a journey anywhere we go in Lancashire and Yorkshire, to getting the best ticket deal and much more besides.

Like every transport provider, sometimes things don’t go to plan – that’s why we offer our Happy Travels Guarantee.

If we’ve let you down, please let us know – and we’ll make sure your next ride is on us.

Just email [email protected] with your contact details and a summary of what happened, and we’ll be in touch.

We’re all about serving you better, which is why we invest money, time and effort into ‘The Academy’, our award-winning network of training centres, devised to deliver the highest quality learning experience for our drivers, engineers and support teams.

We also tailor our communications to match our customers’ needs. That’s why we use print as well as digital to deliver information on our routes and fare deals – and it’s why we have full colour screens displaying live bus and rail connections on our zero emission electric buses on The 36 between Ripon, Harrogate and Leeds.

our people

At Transdev, every person in our team matters, as every one makes a positive difference. That’s why we do more to create opportunities to build a lasting, fulfilling career with us – and when we say we celebrate diversity, we’re about positive actions, not just words.

Keeping our people safe on the road and in the workshop is vitally important to us. We’re proud to hold and maintain a globally recognised benchmark for safety, as recognised by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). Read more about our commitment to safety here.

Our award-winning personal development programmes set out to encourage everyone to develop their skills to progress their careers – at the same time, creating a wider skills base to make us more efficient and effective.

Our own instructors at The Academy, our network of industry leading in-house training facilities, lead thousands of hours of driver training every year, with bespoke learning to meet the needs of all from new starters to the most experienced behind the wheel.

Meanwhile our engineering workshop teams also benefit from a constant programme of upskilling, delivered in-house and externally, as we continue to transition to battery-electric and hybrid powered buses.
