all about your new electric buses

36 Bus, FEB25

Your new electric buses are here for Harrogate and beyond - and they are full of clever technology which will make your journey better than ever.

We've got three types of electric buses in our fleet, which are all specially designed and built for the routes they work. You can read more specific information about each type of bus below.

Electric buses are much better for our communities and our environment - they quietly run round our towns and cities, emitting zero pollution, making them a much better option for getting around than the car.

And the energy we use to charge these buses is clean too - all our energy is renewable, and comes from wind farms around the UK. The UK is a great place for wind powwer, thanks to long coastlines, shallow waters and our strong winds - in fact, we have over 11,000 around the country. This generates 76,000 gigawatt hours of power - enough to charge 160 million of our electric buses each year!

When our transformation to zero emission buses is complete in the next few months, we'll have 41 electric buses in operation, saving over 2,000 tonnes of Co2 per year, equal to 1,000 average family cars being taken off the road.

Our batteries won't last forever - but when their life on our buses comes to an end, they will be repurposed to support the National Grid or to replace diesel generators at events like festivals.

As part of the worldwide Transdev family, we're experts in running electric buses, with 2,000 around the world in 9 different countries!

Here's a little more about each of our electric bus types.

Mercedes Benz eCitaro

These are our newest single-deck electric buses and are mainly seen on the 1, the 7, and the 24. They feature lots of customer friendly features such as full air conditioning and climate control, WiFi, USB power and the latest accessibility features. Our seats are made from fabric and recycled leather, further enchancing their eco credentials.

These buses can run up to 250 miles each day thanks to a 588 kWh battery - the same as 8 electric cars.

Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV

These are the vehicles used on the 36, they have an 472 kWh battery and can run all day on the 36, due to their pantograph opportunity charging system. The buses will charge each time they come into the bus station as you get on and off. The buses also have comfy coach-style seats (made from fabric and recycled leather), free WiFi, and wireless charging holders on every seat.

The buses are built in the UK in partnership with lots of different suppliers - watch our videos on YouTube and learn more about what we do to make the buses the best for our customers and colleagues.

We're really pleased to have worked in partnership with the DfT and North Yorkshire Council to bring this project together - a big thank you to them for their support.
