Visit Leeds – the great Yorkshire city at the heart of it all

Leeds is a city full of life, energy and creativity.

Enjoy award-winning national theatre and dance companies, a world-class arena, and a thriving independent food scene. Shop in one of Britain’s most renowned retail destinations, where big brands meet Victorian arcades. And be at the heart of the action with international sport, colourful carnivals and much more in the city’s packed calendar of events.

The famous Leeds Town Hall was designed in 1852 as a statement of wealth and civic pride. Completed in 1858, it was opened by Queen Victoria herself. Leeds Town Hall now hosts everything from classical music to comedy.

Visual arts are well served by Leeds Art Gallery, with a remarkable collection of twentieth century works. Leeds also takes centre stage in Yorkshire’s sculpture triangle, starting from the inner-city Henry Moore Institute.

Leeds is the only city outside London to host both a resident opera and ballet company. Four major theatres, a world-class arena, and countless independent venuesprovide a feast for the eyes and ears.

This Yorkshire city is also a shoppers’ paradise. The Victorian Shopping Quarter is where you’ll find Victoria Quarter, Victoria Gate, Kirkgate Market and The Corn Exchange – while Victoria Gate, Leeds’ newest retail addition, is a 21st century, elegant arcade filled with up to the minute food and fashion.

Leeds Corn Exchange, with its domed roof, is one of Leeds’ most impressive Victorian buildings. This Grade I Listed building houses a wide range of independent retailers and tasty eateries, and regularly hosts vintage markets and record fairs.
