We’re on board with national ‘Catch the Bus Month’

Every September, Bus Users UK run ‘Catch the Bus Month’ – a special campaign that challenges perceptions and inspires more people to get on board.

And this year, we’re going all-in with four key messages as to why buses are the way to go: Stay Connected, Save Money, Support a Greener Future, and Get Active.

Stay Connected

Whether it’s getting to work or college, seeing your friends or family, visiting a hotspot on your doorstep or someplace further afield – your local bus network helps you stay connected to the people and places that matter most.

Our buses run from the beautiful countryside of Pendle, all the way to the bustling metropolis of Manchester. And by having access to reliable, comfortable, and eco-friendly buses across Lancashire, people are provided with opportunity.

Opportunity to see and do more without worrying about parking charges, to visit a place they’ve never been before and meet up somewhere that’s easy for everyone to get to.

Save Money

It’s an expensive world out there, especially when it comes to transport – which is why it’s important to know how and when you can save money. That’s where Catching the Bus can really help.

For example, we’re on board with the Government’s £3 single fare cap.

Now, that might not sound like much, but over the course of a week, month, or even a whole year, that fare cap can save you a small fortune compared to other modes of transport.

Then there’s the option to buy in bulk with 7-Day and 28-Day tickets, which will save you even more money if you are travelling more regularly.

A few quid here, a few bob there. Buses are simple but powerful ways to Save Money.

Support a Greener Future

Catching the Bus is a fantastic way to travel more sustainably, particularly if the single or double-decker that you’re hopping on runs on eco-friendly power.

For more than a decade, we’ve invested heavily in sustainable transport – and today, all our buses in Lancashire are powered by Biodiesel from Argent Energy!

We’ve also recently introduced 16 new low-carbon emission buses worth around £4 million in Blackburn on the 464-route between Accrington, Rawtenstall, and Rochdale.

Get Active

And finally, we’re all looking for new ways to get those extra steps in – so what better way than with a brisk walk to your local bus stop?

Outside of city centres, the average walk to a bus stop in northern England is around 400 metres, which takes about 5 minutes at a regular pace.

Now, 400m might not sound like much, but if you are walking that distance twice a day, five days a week, for a whole month, that’s:

• Over half the height of Mount Everest
• About 12 laps of a standard Olympic running track
• More than three 5-kilometre Park Runs
