Spooky season in Burnley and Blackburn

There’s plenty going on this half-term holiday – including a frightening amount of family-friendly and adults-only Halloween events to look forward to!
So, we thought we’d share just a handful of shows, offers, and experiences that you can get to by bus.
👻 Board the East Lancashire Halloween Ghost Train: Oct 29 – 31
This year, a whole new mode of spooky adventure is pulling into the station – hop on the Scream Train and solve the mystery of the Irwell Vale Monster!
There’ll be fancy dress, flickering lights, jump scares, live performers, food, and much more. The real question is, will you escape the Scream Train?
The 483 goes from Burnley Bus Station to Bury Interchange, which is only a short walk away from the Bolton Street train station.
🕷 Manchester’s many Monsters: Oct 24 – 31
If you fancy a bit more of a metropolitan monster-hunt this Halloween, Manchester is the place to be – especially with it being the MCR Monsters’ 10th anniversary.
Across the city centre, you'll find giant inflatable monsters, a party procession, a monster library, a disco, a bake-off, a rave-yard, a sweet shop, and even a themed trail.
Our flagship Witchway X43 route goes from Burnley into Manchester.
📝 Haunting Ghost Tours at Queen Street Mill: Oct 30 – 31
Learn all about the darkest, most mysterious stories to come from Queen Street Mill, from paranormal apparitions, injuries and even deaths!
There’ll be two tours each evening, lasting 45 minutes, and plenty of jump scares along the way. So, if you’re in Burnley and want a more local event to kick the weekend off, then book your spot quick on the Haunting of Queen Street Mill ghost tour.
From Burnley Bus Station, hop on the 5 service and get off at Queen Street.
🧙 Hoghton Tower School of Witchcraft and Wizardry: Oct 27 – 29
If mystery and magic is more your thing, check out Hoghton Tower’s new story-led event “School of Witchcraft and Wizardry” – suitable for children between 7-12 years.
Take magic lessons, learn how to cast spells, and make potions in this 2-hour adventure. And of course, fancy dress is encouraged.
Our Hotline 152 service goes to Hoghton from Burnley, Blackburn, and Preston.
🦇 Clitheroe Castle’s Spooky Quest: Oct 30
It’s night at the museum like you’ve never seen before – explore the Clitheroe Castle Museum after dark at this one-day-only event.
There’ll be live characters, a Yucky Dip, games, and crafts, just make sure you’ve escaped by the time the doors are locked at 6:30 pm!
Simply hop on the Mainline M2 from Burnley Bus Station towards Clitheroe.
