Huddersfield brings the past, present and future together in a town with something for everyone.
The Industrial Revolution created the town we see today – and left a legacy of imposing Victorian grandeur, including the imposing Huddersfield Town Hall, a spectacular Grade II listed building which symbolises the town’s proud history and community spirit.
Across the town centre you’ll find Huddersfield Railway Station, named by Time Out magazine as one of the 15 most beautiful on Planet Earth – and the only one in Britain to make their list!
The station’s design was the result of a collaboration between two rail companies, with the intention of linking them both in an extravagant centrepiece. Look out inside for an oil painting of ‘Felix’ the ‘senior pest controller’ - aka the resident cat! – and outside for the statue of one of the town’s most famous sons, former Prime Minister Harold Wilson.
Shoppers will enjoy exploring Huddersfield’s two shopping malls. Kingsgate has over 50 independent and high street retailers, while the Packhorse Centre has a range of locally-owned clothing, food and beauty stores alongside food and drink outlets.
Local plays, independent films, comedy shows and dance productions all feature on the programme at the Lawrence Batley Theatre on Queen Street. Each year the venue hosts over 450 performances, community events, youth theatre and drama workshops – supporting local talent and building a sense of community.
Huddersfield is served by a selection of Team Pennine routes, including the 343 from Halifax (536/537 on Sundays), Denby Darts D1 and D2/D3 from Denby Dale, 303 from Golcar and 526 from Queensbury and Shelf. Look out for our Huddersfield Free Town Bus, which links the bus and rail stations with handy stops across the town centre every 20 minutes, six days a week.
