Red Express now has faster rush hour buses & other changes

1 month ago Wed 22nd Jan 2020

  • New times, including faster rush hour buses, from 26 Jan

  • Irwell Line 481 and 483 to remain the same as now, with no changes

  • All fares remain frozen including weekly travel from £15

  • FAST to Manchester at 7:40am and 8:10am and back at 4:35pm and 5:15pm

Together with newly elected MPs and our local authority partners, we have launched a rescue package for Red Express to keep fast, direct buses between Accrington, Haslingden, Ramsbottom and Manchester.

Red Express has faced an uncertain future and many of you will know that we had made the difficult decision to replace it with a revised network to help us cover our ongoing costs of operation.

However, behind the scenes, we have been busy and in the last couple of weeks we’ve had constructive discussions with local and national politicians, alongside colleagues from our local authorities. We have worked together to find a way forward which is a slightly revised timetable that includes fast buses at rush hours which will see 15 minutes shaved from journeys to make commuting much more attractive for people.

The new fast morning rush hour journeys will arrive into Manchester, Chorlton Street, at 7.40am and 8.10am, picking up at all the usual stops in Accrington, Haslingden, Helmshore, Edenfield and Ramsbottom, then running non-stop into Manchester. The new fast afternoon rush hour journeys will leave Manchester, Chorlton Street at 4.35pm and 5.15pm running non-stop to Ramsbottom then continuing along the rest of the route as normal.

The full timetable can be found here.

You can also buy the best value day, week and carnet tickets on the Transdev Go app, including weekly travel between Ramsbottom and Manchester for £15, and 7 days unlimited travel on the whole route and beyond for just £38.

This also means that the previously advertised changes to Irwell Line will now not happen. Irwell Line will continue to use the same times and route as before – which you can see here. The journey planner on our app and website will be updated over the next 24 hours.

We appreciate that this is a last minute change and our teams will be on hand to answer questions and make sure everyone who needs to travel can do so. You can contact us online or on Twitter @rossobus.

After years of hard work and huge investment on Red Express, trying to make it a success for all, we are obviously pleased that we can continue, and we look forward to picking you up as usual after 26 January.
