£2.5 Million New Buses Packed with Amazing New Features Launched in Blackburn

1 month ago Tue 21st Jan 2020

Your 13 brand new buses, packed with customer-friendly features, including several never seen before on any North West route, are now out and about on the The1 linking Blackburn, Darwen and Bolton following our £2.5 million investment.

Your amazing new buses, proudly built in the North of England, hit the roads on Sunday 19 January 2020 after Saturday shoppers enjoyed a VIP preview in front of Blackburn Market – while The Very Reverend Peter Howell-Jones, Dean of Blackburn Cathedral, joined media and invited guests to welcome the new buses in front of the historic Cathedral

The winners of our competition to find two proud Lancashire voices for audible announcements on board the new buses, Kara Rhodes-Gilrane from Darwen and Ian Slack from Bolton, were among the first to step onto the new buses at Blackburn’s Cathedral Square.

Our CEO Alex Hornby said:

“Nearly 7,000 customers every weekday travel on The 1, and their valued feedback has influenced every aspect of these amazing buses that we believe people will want to be seen on. From the moment customers hear a true Lancashire voice welcoming them on board, they know this is like no bus they’ve ever been on before.

“With a bus up to every 7 minutes between Blackburn and Darwen, and every 15 minutes to and from Bolton, there’s never been a better time to upgrade your ride .”

You’ll see us coming with our bright digital displays with countdown timers which tell you how many minutes until the bus leaves the stop.

Double glazing means no more misted mornings. Windows are meant for you to look out of, so we’re making sure you can do just that. And our skylight roof will make your journey bright and comfortable.

Our low emission engine means cleaner air for Lancashire and Greater Manchester. They’re the cleanest buses around, with an official Euro VI rating.

You’ll be greeted by our friendly drivers ready and waiting to welcome you aboard.

We take contactless payments so you can use your contactless card, or even your smartphone or smartwatch to pay for bus tickets on board.  Or grab a ticket on our app Transdev Go, where you can also track your bus and see live bus times from every stop we use.

The custom-built seats have phone holders with USB and wireless charging at every seat. Charge your phone wirelessly while you watch, work or play.  They’re especially comfy seats too, with designer fabric and headrests so you can ride in style.

Log onto our free WiFi. It’s superfast 4G WiFi so you can make the best use your time with us, without eating into your data.

We’ve got bigger bins on board to help keep things clean and tidy – including a recycling bin so we can do even more for the environment.

Full information on the number 1 route and all services operated by us are available on our website and on the free Transdev Go app.
