We are your champions!
Meet our award winners celebrating success in our two colleague award schemes – the Pride of the North Cup and Transdev Honours.
Our unsung heroes of the road compete each month for a specially created Pride of the North Cup to celebrate the best of the best.
We revived our Pride of the North Cup in early 2023 to salute our drivers who receive the most positive feedback from customers for their smooth and safe travels and friendly welcome on board.
Our Transdev Honours awards are also presented monthly to a single champion from one of our depots across the North, including cleaners, travel shop staff and engineers as well as drivers, with nominations from colleagues and customers.
Transdev Operations Director Vitto Pizzuti says: “It’s when confronted with an unexpected challenge that we really see the amazing determination and dedication of our teams and individuals. I’m so proud of them all, and I’m grateful for all they do.”
Our Yorkshire winners for the second half of 2023 are:
Pride of the North Cup:
August: The Academy’s Rochdale-based driving instructor Tracey Appleyard, who has gone the extra mile to help an extra influx of new drivers through their tests, while also covering bus driving shifts herself when needed, attracting positive customer feedback.
September: Huddersfield based Team Pennine bus driver Mandie Furness delivers spot-on customer service – her regulars say she “always has a smile on her face.” Mandie has top scores for smooth and safe driving, and is keen to mentor new drivers.
October: The Harrogate Bus Company driver Will Deaton was nominated by his grateful customers for his calm and polite handling of a problem with a bus in Leeds city centre on one of the busiest evenings of the year – Light Night.
November: Blackburn’s Martin Carlin was at the wheel of the Red Express X41 bus from Accrington to Manchester when his customer care skills helped a struggling passenger returning from Blackburn Hospital after treatment for a dislocated wrist.
December: The Blackburn Bus Company’s driver Irfan Ifthkhar is well known for his clean driving record and his willingness to help – as confirmed by his actions when he saw a female jogger who had just suffered a fall, remaining with her until all was well.
August: Burnley Bus Station cleaner Maqsood Khan – known simply as ‘Max’ to his colleagues and customers – is described as “a pleasure to be around” and works hard to keep buses clean and tidy, while helping with cleaning at our Burnley bus depot.
September: Rosso Operations Manager Lee Wardle is always ready to resolve issues – his colleagues say, “he’s a star.” He willingly steps up to take on extra responsibility – including remaining at our Rochdale depot all night when fire broke out nearby.
October: Our IT Service Manager Dan McGinty was nominated by two colleagues, who said: “We don’t know how he does it!” Nothing is too much trouble for the man in charge of our ever-changing technology in today’s digital world.
November: Based in York, Operations Manager Kel Pizzuti leads teams there and at Coastliner in Malton. Through 12 months of construction work in York, Kel has also mentored our Operations Supervisor at FLYER, while looking after a new baby at home!
December: Engineering Supervisor Tim Bowman leads teams in York and Malton – and during issues with fuel supplies, Tim sourced parts for engineers in Harrogate and Bradford while leading the preparation of Harrogate’s Christmas open top tour bus.
