Let's meet Dale

Dale’s career journey with us began in June 2016 as a driver based at our York depot, and one year later he’d risen to become Duty Manager. Dale joined our Yorkshire training team in January 2019, becoming training manager in April 2021.

Every day is different for Dale, as his role involves interviewing new people to our business, including cleaners, drivers and engineers – and he has to make sure he’s up to speed with all training matters, such as current Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) requirements, and making sure licences and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks are all valid and in date. Dale also prides himself on creating training packages to promote success at all levels in our team.

Dale says the recruitment side of his job gives him the most satisfaction – he says: “Seeing a trainee driver progress from novice to professionally qualified in about a month is priceless.”

His personal memorable moments include winning Driver of the Year at Transdev’s in-house Amazing Awards in 2017, finishing as runner-up in the UK national Driver of the Year category in the UK Bus Awards, and in his current role, introducing the Academy brand to our training operations.

Colleagues see Dale as “approachable, funny, trustworthy, relaxed and someone who always has time for people.” He enjoys travel and says the Croatian city of Dubrovnik is his number one destination – “breathtaking place, welcoming people” - while his favourite superhero is his dad! Dale adds: “He’ll always be there to save the day!”
