Catch the bus to the bike race ... and to work, to school, and to the shops!

3 weeks ago Tue 27th Aug 2019

The UCI World Cycling Championships will roll into town from 21 until 29 Sep. Many bus journeys will be able to run as normal, so most residents and visitors to the town will be able to travel as usual, but road closures mean that there will be some alterations to let you know about.

The 36 Harrogate - Leeds

Buses are every 10 minutes. We’re using our normal timetable between Harrogate and Leeds and adding extra buses at busy times during the event to get you where you need to go.

Between 21 and 29 September, buses between 9am and 8pm will be affected by the closure of Prince of Wales Roundabout, so we will be unable to get to stops on Leeds Road between Oatlands Corner and the Prince of Wales Roundabout. After picking up at the bus station, buses will run non-stop between Library Gardens and Oatlands, M&S.

The 36 Harrogate - Ripon

The closure of West Park means we will miss stops between Victoria Avenue and the Royal Hall between 18 and 30 September. At some times we will also miss stops between the Royal Hall and the Little Wonder Roundabout.

On 23 and 24 September Ripon Bus Station will be closed, so our final stop in Ripon will be a temporary stop on Somerset Row, just next to Low Skellgate.

Early morning and evening buses will run to normal times every day so people can travel to and from work at each end of the day, and to watch the event.

Daytime buses will also run as normal every 20 minutes through the day on six of the nine event days. On the other three days – 21, 24, 25 Sep – we will not be able to run between Harrogate and Ripon due to road closures for a period in the middle of the day.

The 1 Harrogate-  Knaresborough

Buses come so often on the 1 you don’t need a timetable through the daytime!

We’re using our normal timetables throughout the whole event – every 7 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 15 minutes on Sundays – except on Saturday 21 September, when the race passes through Knaresborough.

On 21 September buses on the 1 will run to normal times before 10am and after 5pm. Between these times buses will be every 7 minutes between Harrogate and Forest Lane Head in Starbeck and every 30 minutes on to Aspin in Knaresborough. We won’t be able to get to stops between Forest Lane Head and Knaresborough Bus Station, to any stops in Knaresborough on the 1B, 1C, 1D, or to St James’s Retail Park but buses will be back to normal after 5pm.

7 Harrogate - Wetherby - Leeds

We’re using our normal timetables for the 7 throughout the whole event – every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday and every hour on Sundays – except on Saturday 21 September, when the race passes through Wetherby.

On 21 September buses on the 7 will run to normal times before 10am and after 5pm. Between these times buses will be every 30 minutes between Harrogate and the roundabout at the Kestrel pub. This means if you’re in Harrogate and heading to the Cycle Expo at the Great Yorkshire Showground, we can drop you right at the door!

Buses will also be every hour between Leeds and Wetherby, where our final stop will be at the Mercure Hotel in Wetherby, as Wetherby Bus Station is closed. We won’t be able to get to stops between Plumpton Rocks and Wetherby, but buses will be back to normal after 5pm.

2A/2B  Harrogate - Bilton

Our 3 buses in Jennyfield won’t be able to get to stops between Victoria Avenue and the Royal Hall between 18 and 30 September. At some times we also will miss stops between the Royal Hall and the Little Wonder Roundabout. Early morning and evening journeys will run to normal times every day so people can travel to and from work at each end of the day, and to watch the event.

6 Harrogate Pannal Ash

On 18, 19, 20 and 30 September our 6 bus to Pannal Ash won’t be able to get to stops on Victoria Avenue or Montpellier Hill but the times for all other stops will be the same. The 6 will be running every hour between 21 and 29 September, on a new route to avoid the daily closure of Otley Road. This means we won’t be able to reach stops between Harrogate Bus Station and Beckwith Road.

The X6 peak time buses to Beckwith Knowle won’t be able to reach the business park, so customers who usually use this bus should use the 6 as far as Beckwith Road – just a few minutes’ walk away from our usual stops. The best stop is shown on the link to the 6 timetable above.

8 Harrogate - Knaresborough - Wetherby

Buses on the 8 between Harrogate, Knaresborough and Wetherby are running as normal every day except Saturday 21 September and Friday 27 September when buses won’t be able to run.

21 Knaresborough - Boroughbridge

Buses on the 21 between Knaresborough, Boroughbridge and nearby villages are running as normal every day except Saturday 21 September when buses won’t be able to run.

Buses on the 22 are running as normal every day except 21 and 27 September. On 21 September we won’t be able to get to Knaresborough or villages between Knaresborough and Ripon.  On 27 September the 3:15pm bus from Knaresborough to Ripon, the 4:02 pm bus from Ripon to York and the 4:15pm bus from Ripon to Knaresborough won’t be able to run.

On 23 and 24 September Ripon Bus Station is closed so we’ll be using a temporary stop on Somerset Row instead.

24 Harrogate - Pateley Bridge

Buses to Pateley Bridge on the 24 won’t be able to get to stops between Victoria Avenue and the Royal Hall between 18 and 30 September. At some times we will also miss stops between the Royal Hall and the Little Wonder Roundabout. On 21 September the 24 is unable to run.

Between 24 and 28 September some buses on the 24 won’t be able to run, and this varies day by day.

Town Centre diversions – 18 to 30 September

Due to the closure of West Park and Parliament Street, buses are using slightly different routes in the town centre (except the 1, 2A, 2B, 7 & 8 which do not use these roads).

Buses on the 36 to Ripon, 3 and 24 will not be able to call at Victoria Avenue or the War Memorial during these dates. Some journeys will also not be able to call at the Royal Hall, Cairn Hotel, Oakdale, The Hydro or West Street depending on the time of day.  We'll confirm exactly which journeys nearer the time, but this doesn't affect the details noted above.

On 18, 19, 20 and 30 Sep buses on the 6 will not be able to call at Victoria Avenue, War Memorial or Montpellier Hill. On all the event days, 21-29 Sep, the 6 will take a different route as noted above.

The 36 returning from Leeds will not be able to stop at the Prince of Wales Roundabout, Beech Grove, the War Memorial or Cheltenham Crescent. On all event days, 21-29 Sep, the 36 will also take a different route during certain times as noted above.
