We're getting you back to class, by getting #BACKTOBUS

2 months ago Tue 18th Aug 2020

It's that time of year again! Get ready to go back to class the easy way – by bus.

Under 19s get  1/3 off adult prices with The Harrogate Bus Company so we've made this handy guide so you can see which ticket is best for you, and the nearest stop to your school or college.

You can be sure when you're riding on our buses that they're clean and safe, achieving the Good to Go award from Visit Britain which means we're meeting the latest Government and Health and Safety Executive guidance and standards. To learn more about how we're cleaning with new innovative methods, and all the precautions in place on our buses please click here.

Our app Transdev Go, has a built-in journey planner, live times from every bus stop and on-map bus tracking. For the first time, we're making sure our school buses track on the app too, so if you're getting back to class, it's never been easier to go by bus!

From 27 September we're adding two more school buses to help everyone get where they need to go.

We will be introducing a new S7 bus. This bus runs alongside the 7 from Wetherby to Harrogate at 7.50am. We're encouraging students to use the S7 which is reserved for the, to help us make room for other customers on the 7 bus running at the same time. The timetable can be found here.

We will also be running an additional Harrogate to Ripon bus in the afternoon to cater for the demand, this will be leaving from Harrogate at 4.05pm. This bus runs alongside the 36 and we're encouraging students to use this bus to help us make room for other customers on the 36 bus running at the same time.

In addition to these changes, the 8.06am journey on North Yorkshire County Council’s school bus 783H will no longer run. The 7.56am trip continues as normal.

Look for your school or college in our alphabetical list below for all the up to date information, and send any questions through to us on Facebook, or on Twitter @Harrogatebus

We're Clean, Safe and Ready to Go

Although many school buses stopped running in March, we've been running many of our buses over the last five months, including school buses for key workers' children, with many precautions in place for the safety of our customers and of our cleaning and driving colleagues.

We've received 'Good to Go' mark from Visit Britain, which means we're meeting all the latest guidance from the Government and the Health and Safety Executive.

What we are doing to keep our buses clean

  • Our buses are deep cleaned every night by our expert team of cleaners ready for you each morning
  • Cleaners at our bus stations are there to hop on board to disinfect buses and clean touchpoints throughout the day
  • School buses are cleaned between the morning and afternoon journeys as well as overnight
  • Cleaning kits are carried by drivers to ensure they’re equipped during the journey
  • Virucidal fog is used every night as part of a new regime and is proven to be highly effective

The video below covers cleaning regimes on regular service buses, and all of the information applies to school buses too, except the note about distancing and limiting capacity. The Government has said that there is no requirement for bus companies to limit numbers on student-only buses which are closed to the general pubic, or ask students to sit apart from each other on the bus.

It is compulsory to wear a face mask on board all buses, including school buses.

If you haven’t got a face covering, we want to make it easy to get your hands on one.

We’ve made some special ‘all the colours of Transdev’ face coverings. These are available to buy in our bus station shops and also on our pop-up shop here.

You can also make your own face covering - check how here.

Got questions about face coverings? Here are the answers.

What is a face covering?

A face covering, usually made from cloth, is used to cover your nose and mouth whilst allowing you to breathe comfortably. It doesn’t have to be a bespoke item – it can be a scarf or other small item of clothing. You are not encouraged to wear medical face masks, which are prioritised to our hard-working friends in the NHS.

Why do I have to wear a face covering?

Face coverings provide an extra layer to help prevent the respiratory droplets from traveling in the air and onto other people. This reduces the chance of infection when you are near to other people. It has been found that a person can have COVID-19 and spread it to others before showing any symptoms, and even not develop symptoms themselves at all. Ensuring everyone wears a face covering means that people will not unwittingly spread or catch the virus.

Why are some people on my bus not wearing one?

There are a number of exemptions to the rule that include young children and those with breathing issues or disabilities. The full list can be found here.

Why was my driver not wearing a face covering?

Our drivers have a protective screen around their cab that protects you and them, so it is not compulsory for them to wear a face covering, although some may still choose to.

Who made the rule about face coverings?

The UK government has set this regulation and we now must work together, with you, our customers to meet it to keep each other safe.

What happens if I don’t wear a face covering?

If you choose not to and you are not exempt, you are going against government regulations and are also risking a fine of up to £100. This regulation will be supported by enforcement officers across the bus network.

How do face coverings help?

It has been found that a person can have COVID-19 and spread it to others before showing any symptoms, and even not develop symptoms themselves at all. Ensuring everyone wears a face covering means that people will not unwittingly spread the virus.

Where can I get a face covering from?

Put your best face on – and contribute to the NHS charities too – with an ‘all the colours of Transdev’ face covering from our bus stations or at our pop-up online shop here. You can also buy one from many supermarkets and clothes shops now or – of course – you can make your own based on the instructions here.
